Effect of Education Based on the Health Belief Model on Treatment Adherence in Patients With Heart Valve Replacement Surgery

Background: Adherence to the treatment regimen reduces complications of surgery after heart valve replacement. Educating patient can improve adherence. This study thus aimed evaluate effect education based on health belief model (HBM) adherence in patients with replacement surgery. Methods: In this quasi-experimental research, a total 90 undergoing were studied. The subjects selected randomly and then divided into an intervention control group using permutation blocks method. data collected demographic questionnaire, HBM- questionnaire during two stages before one month education. Three 60-minute sessions held need assessment for group. analyzed chi-square test, paired t independent linear regression SPSS software version 16.0. Results: Most groups male, married, employed, had reading writing literacy lived urban area. Both similar terms except marital status, disease history, familial history. mean scores knowledge, HBM constructs (e.g., perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, barriers, self-efficacy, cues action), greater than pre-intervention. However, all variables improved group, there significant differences (except susceptibility self-efficacy), medical between post-intervention (P<0.05). Conclusion: Considering positive HBM-based educational patients’ adherence, could be suggested
